"Place of Rest"
Descanso is a small town of about 2,000 residents that lies about 40 miles east of San Diego, California. The word “Descanso” is a Spanish word that means place of rest and this small rural town fits the description. At 3,450 feet, it lies in the foothills of Mount Cuyamaca in the Cleveland National Forest and is sometimes referred to as the gateway to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. This small rural community is the home of many small ranches where horseback riding and hiking are a frequent pastime.
